Song: All Things

Artist: The Cinematic Orchestra

Listening to All Things wasn’t exactly the pleasurable experience it ought to have been. The song made me feel somewhat anxious, it was despairing without any catchy lyrics, and most terrifyingly of was jazz! Anyway, with that said what decided me on this tune was the cool intro with a two tone pulsing beat that both contrasting one another and also create a ramping effect building off themselves.

Weird choice to create artwork for something you’re not really into, I get it but the sound bite at the start hooked me. It conjured an image of looking downwards from some high height as someone falls into the abyss (happy thoughts right). I visioned a silhouetted figure falling to their imminent death as a blood red spiral slowly twisted its way our them. The first night of the project I was off to a great (all be it sinister) start, so much progress in such a little time.

As is sods law, a spanner was chucked in the works grinding my steam train of a thought process to a halt. The form this spanner to was as an all to familiar piece of work. It just so happened a designer had had the same thought process and produced a film poster exactly to my specifications. It’s not like I’d seen the poster before or watched the film before… guess we’ll never know who go there first.

The offending copy — Vertigo movie poster by Saul Bass (1958)
